Why should the designer learn and reccommend ICFs?
ICFs are a versatile building material that allow the designer to achieve the same goals as conventional construction without sacrificing on energy efficiency. ICF forms are recognized by code approvals through the ICC-ES and IBC and are LEED Program eligible. Over the long term, ICFs save the homeowner on home maintenance and energy expenses allowing them to offset the cost of construction, through the reduction of operating cost.

Net Zero Construction and LEED Program Eligible
With elevated levels of thermal resistance and continuous exterior/interior insulation, both below and above finished, grade ICF construction can have significant impact on building energy requirements. ICFs help to decrease load on conventional HVAC systems and along with the implimentation of renewable energy sources, can be a substantial tool in achieving net zero energy goals.
LEED Certification Program
ICFs are LEED Program eligible and go a long way toward achieving the environmental goals of any construction project. ICFs can earn points toward a LEED certification in multiple categories including Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, as well as Indoor Environmental Air Quality. To learn more about their qualifications in sustainable building we recommend the following guide provided by one of our form suppliers.
Disaster Resiliency
ICFs function as a great solution for disaster prone areas, such as remote woodland construction, costal areas or locations near a flood prone body of water. Whether building with the safety of the occupant in mind or the efficiency of rebuilding after a natural disaster ICFs provide a tested solution which minimizes damage and loss.
- Many of our manufactures built and test their forms to withstand up to 250 MPH Winds
- ICF Blocks can be ordered and built for a fire rating of 4+ hours as compared to 45 minutes with conventional framing.
- Unlike Conventional construction, ICFs are not prone to the rot, mold and water damage caused by flooding.

Consumer Comfort
ICFs affect the user experience of the home in ways that create more comfortable living than traditional construction methods. ICFs are mold resistant, increasing indoor air quality. They offer acoustic damping effects for a quieter living environment and the air tight nature of ICFs allow for more efficient air temperature control. All of the modern conveniences offered with stick framed construction can be achieve with ICFs, in order to achieve efficient, comfortable and convenient living.
Why ICF's
-
Stronger walls
-
Disaster resistance and safety
-
Mold, rot, mildew, and insect resistance
-
Sound-blocking ability
-
Overall comfort
-
Energy efficiency and resultant cost savings

Design Versatility
Traditional stick frame home designs can be adapted to be constructed with ICFs, allowing the designer to achieve the desired aesthetic without sacrificing efficiency. Most manufactures produce a line of blocks with integrated brick ledge providing an even greater degree of flexibility when it comes to building cladding and interior finishes can be designed to match that of traditional construction.
Structurally ICFs can be used for a variety of applications ranging from double decker garages to multi-level commercial structures. Check out the Farmview Dream Home project for a images relating to our most recent involvement in an a double decker garage built to satisfy the wildest imagination of a return client!
Thinking about adding a pool to your project? ICFs can be used to construct custom pools, which better regulate water temperatures and extend the swim season! While this application of ICFs is new to the area, our services will be expanding soon to include ICF pools with durable ECO-Finish Liners.
Many fun and cool projects have been completed over the years using ICF technology! For some of the state of the art and innovative projects completed by installers around the globe checkout the following link.
Ready to Learn More?
Throughout the years we have gained experience installing a variety of brands of ICFs and while each has its benefits and draw backs the majority offer a solution suitable to most applications. Included below are the links to resources provided by the manufactures to aid in the design process.
In addition to the manufactures' resources linked below we have created a resource packet, designed specifically for the designer and their conversations with homeowners interested in using ICFs for their next project.
As we are passionate about this product and education, please don't hesitate to reach out to request a live demonstration for your organization. We are happy to coordinate one of our own representatives or a manufacture representative to discuss ICFs with you and your organization.
